The Film Rembetiko by Kosta Ferris is along with Never In Sunday, Zorba The Greek, and Z is one of Greece's  most important contribution to the world of film. The story follows the carrer of a woman singer, based on Marika Ninou and her relationship with Vasslis Tsitsanis. Even more important is the influence the soundtrack has had, reawakening many Greeks to their own musical history. Kosta Ferris is a multi-talented writer, producer, director, musician and  along with Theo Angelopoulos, one of the leaders of New Greek Cinema.  Stavros Xarhakos who wrote the music is not only one of Greece's most well-known and respected composers but also represents that country as a New Democracy party European deputy.
